Emily Hargrove
PHD, Self-Advocate
Dr. Emily Hargrove is a psychologist, researcher, international speaker, philosophical counselor, and self-advocate whose work bridges fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), spirituality, and living experience. Diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) at age one, Emily has spent nearly two decades bringing living experience and scholarship together to challenge stigma and expand understanding of life with FASD. As both a lifelong learner with FASD and a researcher, she brings a unique perspective to understanding what learning, navigating expectations, and participating in educational environments can feel like from the learner's side. Emily's research and publications have explored adulthood with FASD, quality of life, healthcare, faith development, and spirituality. She is also the author of the children's book FASD Is My Superpower: Helping Kids Understand the Strengths of Their Diagnosis. Emily is a member of the International Adult Leadership Cooperative of the FASD Changemakers and has served in national leadership, research, and advisory roles across the FASD field. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology, with doctoral research exploring the faith formation and spiritual experiences of adults with FASD.
